Jesus has always asked questions. Really good ones, such as:
And then, there is this story in Matthew 9:
As Jesus went on from there, two blind men followed Him, shouting, “Have mercy on us, Son of David!”
When He entered the house, the blind men approached Him, and Jesus said to them, “Do you believe that I can do this?”
“Yes, Lord,” they answered Him.
Then He touched their eyes, saying, “Let it be done for you according to your faith!”
Today, he is asking me…
Do you believe that:
I can heal your heart?
I will fulfill my promises?
I can bring beauty from these ashes?
I will redeem your mistakes?
Do you believe that I can do this without your help? Even in spite of you?
Do you believe that I will never let you go?
Good questions. Of course, I want my answer to be a wholehearted, “Yes, Lord.” But some days, I live like I don’t believe him.
I’m living like I’m still blind.
I’m lying on my mat saying I want to be well.
And he’s calling me out on it.
“Do you believe that I can do this? Then, start living like you believe it. Walk in that faith. Pick up your mat and walk.”
Is Jesus calling you out on anything today?

Very simple questions, yet very powerful. Love this post.
Thanks, Tamarria! I always appreciate your encouragement. And yes, Jesus asks some simple yet very powerful questions!
This is exactly what I have been wrestling with this week and last. I say I believe “in God,” but am I believing God? In some areas of my life, I can say yes. But in specific pressurized areas? Not so sure my thoughts and actions display belief.
Thanks for making me look at this again. And for telling me I am not the only one.
Thanks for joining the conversation, Carrie. And yes, I know exactly what you mean…I’m sure we’re struggling with different areas, but it comes down to the same questions!
I love the simplicity and cleverness of everything Jesus said. It’s a reminder to me that I should speak less, listen more, and carefully consider my words.
I like these two questions: “Do you believe that I can do this without your help? Even in spite of you?” I am so glad it doesn’t depend on me!
Happy weekend!
Ally, thanks for the comment! I have missed you around here. Loved your input!
Loved reading this. I to have remind myself of these things almost daily, it seems. Doubt creeps in. Suddenly, I realize I’m not doubting Him…but me. Somehow I sneak my way back into the driver’s seat. I’m so grateful for what I’ve learned, even if it was the hard way. Like the song says, “He’s still working on me”….
T — Thanks for stopping by and commenting! You are right — doubt can certainly begin to creep. It’s a daily battle to keep our eyes on him. I love the verse Pete has been quoting lately: Colossians 3:2 – “Set your minds on what is above, not on what is on the earth.”
