Friday Flair 07.10.09

friday flair Well, I haven’t posted a Friday Flair in a couple of weeks. I plan to post every other Friday going forward. So, here goes…

  • My hometown was featured on the national news this week! That is a big deal when you come from a town of only 4,000! Check it out HERE.
  • I went to a CD Release Party last night. I am now quite smitten with the music of Sandra McCracken. Especially THIS SONG, which I have been playing on repeat all day (and I just found out it was featured on Grey’s Anatomy last season!)
  • Most of my favorite blog posts lately have come from Jon over at Stuff Christians Like. He totally cracks me up with posts like THIS and THIS. Then just when you’re not expecting it, you get something life-changing like THIS.

Friday Flair verses this week:  What desert road is God using in your life right now?

Happy Friday!

Father’s Day Edition

In honor of Father’s Day this weekend, this week’s Friday Flair is all about fathers!

President Obama wrote this sweet Father’s Day article for Parade magazine.

This post by Pete Wilson was posted a few weeks ago; however, I think it’s a great Father’s Day post (and a great lesson on being a leader).

Here is a Father’s Day prayer that I really like:

Let us praise those fathers who have striven to balance the demands of work, marriage, and children with an honest awareness of both joy and sacrifice. Let us praise those fathers who, lacking a good model for a father, have worked to become a good father.

Let us praise those fathers who by their own account were not always there for their children, but who continue to offer those children, now grown, their love and support. Let us pray for those fathers who have been wounded by the neglect and hostility of their children.

Let us praise those fathers who, despite divorce, have remained in their children’s lives. Let us praise those fathers whose children are adopted, and whose love and support has offered healing.

Let us praise those fathers who, as stepfathers, freely choose the obligation of fatherhood and earned their step children’s love and respect. Let us praise those fathers who have lost a child to death, and continue to hold the child in their heart.

Let us praise those men who have no children, but cherish the next generation as if they were their own.

Let us praise those men who have “fathered” us in their role as mentors and guides.

Let us praise those men who are about to become fathers; may they openly delight in their children.

And let us praise those fathers who have died, but live on in our memory and whose love continues to nurture us.
By: Kirk Loadman

Finally, I know that our earthly fathers sometimes disappoint us, but we have a heavenly Father who is always good, always perfect, always sovereign–one
whose love is unconditional and limitless: Deuteronomy 32:4

Happy Father’s Day!

Friday Flair (belated!) 06.13.09

friday flairI wish I could tell you that I thought about Friday Flair once yesterday, but it didn’t happen! With the intention of updating you on my life (versus providing excuses), I started a full-time consulting project last week that will last throughout the summer. It has been almost 2 years since I had to show up at an office outside of my home every day, and it has been an adjustment for sure.

IMG_2030Also, I spent a lot of time this week with the amazing kids of Preston Taylor Ministries this week at our VBS called Summer JAM (Jesus and Me). I have included some fun pictures!

So, on to Friday (ahem – Saturday) Flair.

Here are some of my favorite blog posts as of late:

–This fabulous POST by my friend Hilary!

–And this ONE by Lola. Lola went on the Ireland mission trip with us. She had previously done missions work in Dublin and she stayed behind for the summer after we left to carry on some work. She is definitely having some adventures and I know she is right where God wants her to be.

–Those of you who know me well will completely understand my deep, deep kinship with this POST.

–This POST cracked me up since this weekend is CMA Fest in Nashville (previously known as Fan Fair), the week when all of us struggle to avoid cursing tourists for crazy traffic jams and other nuisances.

In light of that last comment, here is this week’s Friday Flair Bible verse: Psalm 19:14

Happy Saturday! Thanks for all of the comment love lately 🙂

Friday Flair 06.05.09

friday flair

It’s June! And it’s a busy Friday with tons of flair:

If you haven’t read my post from Wednesday … shame on you. Just kidding. Actually I mentioned that my friend Ally is in Nicaragua and she is blogging her adventures. You can read her hilarious (although sometimes scary) posts HERE and HERE and HERE.

In other blog reading this week:

This POST made me laugh

this POST made me cry.

Remember that Annie is still in Africa; follow her via the Mocha Club blog and watch these VIDEOS.

Have you ever heard of MANNA BAGS? My friend Shannon told me about them, and I love the idea. These are easy to make yourself and hand out to those in need.

Scripture time … after I wrote the post on Wednesday evening about holding loosely, I came across this passage the next morning during my devotional time: Luke 16:1-13 How applicable! Verse 9 says, “Here’s the lesson: Use your worldly resources to benefit others and make friends. Then, when your earthly possessions are gone, they will welcome you to an eternal home.”

Happy Friday!
